Nurse Practitioner to run under Manitoba Liberal banner
WINNIPEG – This evening, Manitoba Liberals nominated Kathryn Braun as the
candidate for Kildonan-River East in the upcoming provincial election. Braun, a nurse
practitioner, has experienced the chaos of the Pallister Government’s health care
changes first hand while working in the system. She also experienced it first hand when
her father fell ill.
"My dad was ignored and neglected by the many staff who didn’t seem to have the
capacity to do their jobs properly" said Braun. "The failure of the healthcare changes
should not leave anyone feeling written off. I am proud to stand with the Manitoba
Liberals who have committed to ensuring that healthcare is reliable, responsive, and
provided close to home."
In September 2018, Braun’s father George Myer received a CT scan and an MRI which
showed a growth on the upper lobe of his right lung. After months of delays, Myer was
taken to an Emergency Department on Christmas Day. During this visit, Myer was left
on a stretcher in the hallway for between 48 and 60 hours. Myer was diagnosed with
lung cancer much too late.
"I am honoured that someone of Kathryn’s tenacity and courage has decided to run for
the Manitoba Liberal Party. We are very excited to have her on the team," said Dougald
Lamont, Leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party.
